Thurston Nichols, 73, passed away on January 17, 2023. He was born on January 25, 1949, in Akron to the late Howard and Violet Nichols. Growing up Thurston enjoyed many summers with his uncle, George Boggs, on the farm in Roane County, West Virginia.
Thurston owned and operated his own precision machine shop, Carr Machine, for 20 years in the Akron area. He was an accomplished Ohio realtor who enjoyed helping people find the home of their dreams and volunteered for the American Brittany Rescue where he helped save the lives of so many displaced Pets. Dozens of dogs, of all different breeds, found their way into his care and ended up as loved lifelong family members.
Thurston was truly a self-taught man of many skills; he taught himself to renovate a kitchen, woodworking, electric, and drywall. He also enjoyed many hobbies during his time on this earth; hunting, fishing, shooting sports, Mopar muscle car restoration, and riding motorcycles. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family at home.
Thurston is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Nichols; son, Christopher (Annie) Nichols; grandson, Maxwell; as well as many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Altercare of Alliance for the care they provided Thurston.
Per Thurston’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will take place. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Thurston’s name to American Brittany Rescue Inc., ABR Treasurer, 1079 Sunrise Avenue STE B 148, Roseville, CA 95661.
