Susan M. (Shearer) Shrake 

Susan Shrake, 82, passed away on October 12, 2023.  She was born on March 1, 1941, in Akron to the late Herman and Dorma Shearer.  Susan was a 1959 graduate of Manchester High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Jim. They enjoyed 49 years together before his passing.

Susan worked as a beautician until her life was blessed with staying at home with their four children. In their later years, Susan and Jim enjoyed being snowbirds and split their time between New Franklin, Ohio, and Naples, Florida. Susan was a Self-proclaimed bird nerd and treasured time working in her yard and garden where she said she felt closest to God. Susan adored her five grandchildren and loved watching them grow up. She lived an amazing but simple life.

Besides her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and son, Michael Shrake.  She is survived by her sons, Jimmy (Jan) and Tom (Milissa) Shrake; daughter, Mary Kay (Mark) Walker; grandchildren, Max, Zachary, Samantha, Benjamin, and Hunter; brother, Clyde (Marlene) Shearer; as well as many other loving family and friends. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  A private family inurnment will take place at East Liberty Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Portage Lakes Fireworks Association, P.O.
