Steven A. Norris

Steve Norris, 54, passed away unexpectedly after a sudden illness on March 15, 2023. He was born in Akron on June 14, 1968, to the late Robert and Nancy Norris. Steve graduated from Hocking College with an associate degree in Natural Resources Law Enforcement. He enjoyed being outdoors on the water and in the woods. His hobbies included boating, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, side-by-side trail riding, and amateur radio. In recent years, Steve traveled internationally with his wife to Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, Egypt, and the Dominican Republic.

He worked at the Summit County Sheriff's Department for 25 years in many areas of the patrol division. His most recent responsibilities include Ohio Labor Council local representative and contract committee chairperson. Steve was dedicated to serving the community and protecting its citizens. He was a member of the Turkeyfoot Sportsman Club, Turkeyfoot Island Club, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, where he served many years on the board of trustees.

Steve fiercely loved his wife, family, friends, and the Portage Lakes community. He enjoyed boating on the lakes and supported its local businesses. Those who knew Steve came to appreciate his stern exterior, quick sense of humor, deep commitment, and immense love. Steve was looking forward to his upcoming retirement and fulfilling his dream of buying a liveaboard boat and completing the Great Loop.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Carla Parker-Norris; brother, Scott Norris; sister, Lisa (David) Handal; nephews, William Norris, Austin (Sarah), and Alexander Handal; as well as many caring friends and co-workers.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319, with Rev. James Allshouse officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday from NOON until the time of the service at the funeral home.
