Sherrie Underwood Obituary

Sherrie Underwood, 66, of Portage Lakes, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2023.  She was born on September 13, 1957, to her late parents William H., Sr. and June Underwood.

Sherrie was a graduate of Coventry High School in 1975.  She then went on to pursue a career in the field of Nursing where she graduated as a Diploma Nurse in 1977 from St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing.  She began her nursing journey at Akron General Medical Center as an ICU nurse.  Sherrie then went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1987 from The University of Akron.  She spent time working as a nurse in Chicago, IL.  Sherrie then moved back to Ohio to continue her nursing career. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing in 1991.  Sherrie fulfilled her nursing career working for Walsh University beginning in 1995.  While working for Walsh University, Sherrie was an integral part of Nursing Education during her 27 years of service.  Sherrie earned many honors of service as a nurse.  Sherrie was a dedicated educator who advocated for the students of Walsh University which impacted the field of nursing, and she loved teaching and all the students.

Sherrie is survived by her brother, William H., Jr. (Rebecca) Underwood; nephew, Brian (Melissa) Underwood; nieces, Betsy (Matt) Mitchell, Breanne (Brett) Faris, and Brittney (Richard) Tipton; great-nephews: Brian Jr., Joshua, Lucas, and Carson and great nieces: Adeline, Kaylee, Brielle, Beatrice, Caroline, Brynne, and Hannah; as well as countless friends and colleagues.

Sherrie was a Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.  Sherrie will be remembered for her love of books, and reading, and as a proud cat mom.  She could never pass up a good yard sale or antique store.  Sherrie had a quick sense of humor and could make all of us laugh.  One her of favorite sayings was “And we will laugh!”.  She will be forever loved and missed on our family vacations, Yahtzee games, and Christmas Eve until midnight.  Sherrie was a loving sister, aunt, and true friend, we take comfort she is celebrating in Heaven.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amanda Pratt, Jeanne Toth, June Mueller, and Roger Glasko for their unwavering friendship over the years.
