Shawn Bahry Obituary

Shawn T. Bahry, 52, of Green, was carried to Heaven by God’s angels to meet his lord and savior and those loved ones who were waiting to be with him again.

Shawn was born on March 17, 1970, in Akron, Ohio to loving parents Hylem and Antoinette. He was a special son, brother, nephew, uncle, and grandson who was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His positive outlook on life, ability to easily make lifelong friends, and refusal to let his disabilities keep him from leading a full life, endeared him to his entire family and countless friends.

Shawn was born with Spina Bifida and from that day on overcame obstacles most people never have to experience. His strong desire to accomplish and exceed daily tasks, milestones, and many other things we all take for granted was an inspiration for us all.  Shawn never complained about being born with a physical handicap, in fact, was fiercely independent. At the early age of 10 months, he overcame the challenge of learning how to walk his way by using a standing brace. He experienced horseback riding, boating (even eventually driving a boat), camping, and loved to play wheelchair basketball. Shawn traveled to multiple cities to compete in Soap Box Derby races and at the age of 11 won The All-American Soap Box Derby. He like all other teenagers was thrilled to get his driver’s license which gave him even more independence. This led to jobs, dates, and chauffeuring his younger siblings to various places.

Shawn’s hobbies included fishing, attending car and boat shows, going to movies, cooking, and entertaining. He loved being with family and friends and was always 15 minutes early for any occasion. He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, all Cleveland sports, and Wrestling and was the first to report the scores. Shawn took pride in providing news, weather, and traffic updates to all loved ones on an hourly basis

Thoughtfulness and selflessness were two unquestionable traits of his. If Shawn had $10, he would try to buy 10 people gifts. Last year Shawn was lucky enough to receive a Christmas bonus from his employer H&W Door, in which he spent every penny on buying gifts for his family. There is no one who thought about others more than themself than Shawn

Our lives are richer for having been able to know and love him. Life will go on without this special individual, but it will never be the same.

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom (Eleanor) Collier and James (Gertrude) Bahry; stepmother, Donna Bahry; stepfather, William Ellesin; brothers, Zeph and Alex Ellesin; uncle, Joe Collier; cousin, Jackie Morrison and his beloved dog Abby.

Shawn is survived by his parents Antoinette Collier and Hylem Bahry; stepmother, Alexandra Ellesin; brothers, Richard (Meghan) Bahry, Drew (Amy)Bahry, William (Jordan) Ellesin, and Co (Yutian) Bappe; sisters, Kristen (Paul) Webber, Kathryn (Robert) Dahlen, Candice (Ken) Kochenour, Maria Ellesin, Nichol Ellesin,  Jill Newland, and Amy Newland; nephews, Carson Bahry, Haydn Webber, Owen Webber, James Dahlen, Miles Newland, and Rio Young; nieces, Abigail Morse, Camryn Bahry, Mabelle Webber, Isla Dahlen, and Savanna Newland; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends

Now that his earthly restrictions are removed, he will walk with his loved ones in heaven, and run with the guardian angels who were watching over him here on earth and carried him to heaven.
