Sharen Hickey, 75, of Doylestown passed away February 28, 2021 after a courageous battle with a very rare form of bladder cancer. She was born February 6, 1946 in Akron to the late Homer and Barbara Duty. Sharen was a 1964 graduate of Green High School and retired from Wright Tool & Forge in Barberton with 48 years of service. At the age of 73 she went to work at McDonald's in Norton where she was loved by many and affectionately referred to as "Grandma" by all. Sharen was a member of Doylestown United Methodist Church. She was an avid painter and artist, enjoyed reading, movies, jigsaw puzzles and had a love for animals. But Sharen’s most precious time was spent with her family.
Besides her parents, Sharen was preceded in death by her brother, Jeff Duty and twin sister, Karen Whipkey. She is survived by her daughter, Danyelle (Dawn) Miller; grandchildren, Alex Bennett (Jamie Firth), Allie Bennett (Dave VanCleave) and Grayson Gano; as well as many other family and friends.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Cooper Cancer Center at Summa Hospital, Summa Hospice Services and many other medical professionals that helped her during her fight with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Rev. Angela Lewis officiating.
