Sandy Cox, 80, after a long and wonderful life, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born March 28, 1942, in Akron to the late Harold and Doreen Thomas. During her working years, you could find Sandy bartending at Red’s Lounge and Guys Party Center. She loved spending time on and around Portage Lakes with her BFFs from Coventry High School, as well as friends she met throughout the years of her life. She enjoyed playing piano/organ and was the pianist for Order of Eastern Star formerly Lakes Chapter #567 now the Ravenna Lodge #46. When she wasn’t out and about Sandy could be found surrounded by her family and being “The Best Nana Ever” She will be truly missed by many.
Besides her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Gerri (Chester) Fuson. She is survived by her sons, Tommy and Danny Cox; daughters, Maggie Bell (Steve Orasko) and Gerri Heinbuch; grandchildren, Samantha Cox, Briana Cox, Lauren (Kyle) Cramer, Ryan Bell, Aaron (Mandy) Bell, Hannah Bell (Dr. Colby Staubs), Jessica (Seth) Miller, Naomi, and Omarr Al-Naboulsee; 10 great grand-children; as well as niece Nora, nephew Richard and countless friends including Larry Cox.
Funeral service will be held at 4 P.M. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Sunday from NOON until the time of the service at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sandy’s name to The Miracle League of Northeast Ohio, P.O.
