Samuel David Mace Obituary

Sam Mace, 81, of Green passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on August 17, 2022. He was born March 22, 1941, in Wirt County, WV, and was the son of the late Lucy Crockett and Perry Guy Mace. Sam was the youngest of thirteen children and he cherished every moment of time spent with his family and friends.

 

Sam graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and moved to Akron shortly after to marry his wife, Beverly, and together they raised four girls over 59 years. He had a career of nearly 35 years in Polymer Research and Development, working for Goodyear, Shell Chemicals, and M&G Polymers. In addition to his career, he worked numerous side jobs, like building and roofing homes.

 

Sam lived a happy and fun life. He was an avid outdoorsman, that loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing sports of all kinds, especially golf. He was competitive and enjoyed card games with his family and friends. He loved to win. He was a fervent reader, reading countless books over his lifetime. He had a strong spirit of adventure and enjoyed many vacations with his family and friends over the years.  Whether it was white water rafting the Colorado river with his buddies or relaxing on a cruise ship with his wife, he was always ready for his next trip. Sam was at his happiest when surrounded by his loved ones, especially after church (The Chapel Green) on Sundays when his family gathered for dinner. He was a member of Lions Club International for many years. He was active in his community and volunteered his time and support to local sporting events. Sam could often be found keeping score at Green Local School's basketball games. He was well-liked by all and was known for his big personality and keen sense of humor.

 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Beverly; daughters, Chris Mason, Kim Mace, Tami (Todd) Kramer, and Stacy Orazen; grandchildren, Tiffany Kramer, Tyler Mason, and Josh (Amanda) Mason; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Kinsey; as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Leonard Don, Jack, Jim, Tom, and Daniel Paul Mace; sisters, Madge Adams, Hannah Hickman, Mary Masten, JoAnn Mace, Betty Lowe, and Dorothy “Dottie” Newell; son-in-law, Brian Orazen. They are sure to be enjoying a glorious family reunion with him in his new heavenly home!

 

Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E.
