Roy Hartman, 72, passed away on April 7, 2024. He was born in Avon Lake on August 7, 1951, to the late Earl and Ruth Hartman. Roy graduated from Avon Lake High School and went on to be a student at Bluffton College. During his time at Bluffton, he met Robin DeVane whom he married on May 15, 1974, later settling in Pittsfield, Ohio.
Roy spent his career with the Lorain County Metro Parks as a Ranger, rising to the rank of Senior Naturalist. He retired after 36 years of service in 2006. Roy began the LCMP Raptor Center in the kitchen of his home.
Roy enjoyed fishing, nature walks, camping, playing his guitar, fish fry’s, and rehabilitating wildlife, but most of all he loved spending time with family and friends he loved dearly. Roy also was a member of the Lorain County Patriots Band.
Along with his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta “Robin” Hartman; brother, William “Bill” Hartman and sister, Linda Kuenzel. He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Tiffany) and Don Hartman; sisters, Chris Dudkowski and Jane Cox; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 5 to 9 P.m. at Carlisle Visitor Center, Lorain County Metroparks, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, Ohio 44050. Family and friends are asked to bring a covered dish to share with the group.
