Ron DiSpina Obituary


Ron DiSpina, 83, passed away on February 4, 2024.   He was born June 10, 1940, in Akron, to the late Joe and Vera DiSpina.  He graduated from Garfield High School in 1958. After graduating, he was a barber with his father at DiSpina’s Barber Shop. In 1962, he enlisted in the Navy. In 1969, he started his career with the Akron Police Department.

Ron had an endless love and passion for his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. He enjoyed cutting his grass, fishing, and spending time on the water. He loved taking friends, family, and Camp Quality campers for rides on his pontoon boat while being a member of the Akron Yacht Club. Ron was very proud of his Italian heritage and was an active member of the Kenmore Italian Civic Club. He found great happiness in the company of the children and staff while attending events for IDEA House.

Along with his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his son Christopher and daughter Stacey. Left to mourn his loss, are his wife of 61 years, Carole; daughter Angela; (Tony) Shumate; daughter-in-law Chrissy; grandchildren, Kellen, McKenna (Gabe), Codian, Nolan, Malone, Joseph, and Vincent; great-granddaughter Vera; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also, among his loved ones are Pat Kapper, Amanda Rininger, and his APD brothers and sisters.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 where military honors will be performed at 8 P.M.  Memorial contributions can be made in Ron’s name to the Stephen A.
