Richard S. Johnston, Sr.

Rick Johnston, Sr., 71, passed away July 20, 2019 after a short battle with melanoma.  He was born April 4, 1948 in Akron to the late Donald and Lila Johnston. He retired from the Summit County Sheriff’s office as a sergeant and was a member of The Wayfarer Lodge #789, Valley of Akron Scottish Rite, Tadmor Shrine, and The Liar’s Club.

In addition to his parents, Rick, Sr. was preceded in death by brother, Donald and nephew, Jerrod Jung.  He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter, Stacey (Dennis) Mathieu; sons, Christopher Patrick, John (Jill) Patrick, and Rick (Amber) Johnston, Jr.; sisters, Carol (Walt) Duda and Sarah (Mark) Jung; sister-in-law, Julie Johnston; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd.
