Raymond W. "Ray" Immel

Ray Immel, 68, of New Franklin passed away on November 8, 2023, after a long illness.  He was born in Akron to the late Wilbur “Bud” and Marie Immel.

Ray retired from the Summit County Sheriff’s Department in 2017 after serving the community for 32 years.  Ray enjoyed his life to the fullest and loved being outdoors, from riding his motorcycle, hiking, and kayaking, to watching old movies and spending time with his family and friends.  Above all else, Ray was a man of God who till the end shared his faith and love of Christ with everyone he could.  For those who knew Ray best, we can remember him with love in these few words… “WOW” …” I am so Blessed.”

God saw that you were getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you
and whispered, ‘Come home with me’.
With tear-filled eyes we
watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard-working hands put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
“He only takes the Best”!
 

Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Baskey and Tina Fry.  He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shelley Immel; sons, Jeff (Christine) and Chad (Allison) Immel; granddaughters, Annie and Allie; as well as many other loving family and friends.

We were blessed to call Ray a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, co-worker, and friend.  Ray was blessed and we were blessed to have him in our lives.  Until we meet again….and forever in our hearts.

Per Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ray’s name to Traditions Hospice, 577 Grant Street, STE B, Akron, Ohio 44311, or “Paying it Forward” by doing something nice for someone else, that is what Ray would want.
