Pauline A. (Manthey) Long

Pauline Long, 92, passed away on November 29, 2022.  She was born on January 31, 1930, in Akron to the late Ferdinand and Barbara Manthey.  Pauline was a graduate of South High School and retired from Ohio Bell in 1981 with 32 years of service.

Pauline married the love of her life, John Long, in 1951 and they spent 32 ½ wonderful years before John passed away.  She enjoyed embroidering, knitting, jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books, reading, feeding the backyard birds and animals, and caring for all her dogs over the years.  But most of all she loved going on excursions with her sisters and niece. Pauline was known for making her famous deviled eggs and seven-layer salads for family events. 

Pauline was a lifetime member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered for the bagged lunch program, at the church, where she made many lifelong friends.  Pauline also volunteered at Inventure Place. 

Besides her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, John Long; sisters, Helen Morin and Ruth Strefeler.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

You will be missed, but never forgotten, Rest in peace, Aunt Pauline.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Fr. David Durkee officiating.  Family and friends may call on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions can be made in Pauline’s name to St. Bernard Memorial Trust Fund, 44 University Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44308, or to the Humane Society of Summit County, 7996 Darrow Road, STE 30, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.
