Myrtle Scott, 93, passed away December 30, 2020. She was born August 1, 1927 in Barberton to the late Ephram and Iva Patch.
Myrtle and Richard bought their basement house just two and a half years after they were married. First Richard added a 2-car garage, then on Easter Weekend 1960 the family “moved upstairs” into the house that Dad built. The same house that Madalyn has the privilege to live in now. Myrtle loved hosting every type of family gathering in her home. So many cakes, pies and cookies, she lovingly made, were enjoyed by her family in that home.
Myrtle enjoyed crocheting and we are quite sure that there are many of you reading this that have an afghan, doily or dishcloth made by her hands. She attended Green Valley United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, you could always hear her hum a hymn while she worked at home. She served as president of the church Women’s Group for almost 30 years and volunteered at the Open-M in Akron. Myrtle loved to serve the Lord. She helped care for many family members in their time of need or in their final years. Myrtle was a faithful and dedicated caregiver for sure.
Myrtle always cherished the trips she would take to visit family in the U.S., Scotland and Hawaii or the cruise her and Richard took to Alaska. There are also many fond memories of family vacations in Canada, where dad would fish and she would shop, tour the sites and cook all the fish.
Besides her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son-in-law, Dennis Bannan; one brother; two sisters; one grandson; one great granddaughter. She is survived by her loving children; Richard, Jr. (Kathy) Scott; Madalyn (Paul) Elsbree; and Marjorie Bannan; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
