Michael Zwick Obituary

Mike Zwick, 64, passed away December 1, 2020.  He was born July 24, 1956 in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Marguerite Zwick. He was raised in a Jewish home, went to Hebrew school and celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at his family’s synagogue. Later, Mike accepted Jesus the Christ as his Savior, while still celebrating his Jewish heritage.

Mike lettered in baseball, football, golf and hockey at Shaker Heights High School, where he met his future wife, Lisa. At the University of Toledo, he studied business, accounting and percussion under Robert Bell of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Mike was an exceptional percussionist and drummer. He and three friends formed a worship band, Whitehorse, who released a CD of original songs in the early 1990’s. Mike played in several churches over the years. He especially enjoyed his time with the worship music community at The Chapel in Green.

He became the president and owner of Akron Cotton Products, Inc. in 1979, the same year that he and Lisa married. He worked hard to keep the business productive. He was a doer, having the insight and foresight to see what needed to be done and doing it.

Mike was a lively, active person who knew how to make any conversation interesting and memorable. He was very knowledgeable on many topics, had many interests, and readily shared insights with friends, family and strangers. For many years, Mike and his best friend, Jim Elsmore, went duck hunting locally at Nimisila Reservoir They enjoyed the dark, early morning starts, and the wait in their custom fabricated duck boat, if for nothing else, to enjoy the brief serenity. Mike’s continued pursuit to perfect his golf game drove him to become familiar with many courses, near and far over the years, and he became an avid student and sought-after instructor of the game.

Mike was a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa, of 41 years. They shared many interests involving the arts, and occasionally the classic western movie. They enjoyed the time they spent together at their second home in Florida, and an annual retreat to the historic rustic tavern they both fell in love with years ago. Mike loved the times he spent with Shawn and Kim, his daughter-in-law Chelsea, and his grandchildren, Quinn and Evie, who lovingly dubbed him “Pap pap”. They also loved time with him, his humor and his fun silliness.

Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie and Donna.  He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Zwick (Marino); son, Shawn (Chelsea) Zwick; daughter, Kimberly Zwick; grandchildren, Quinn and Evie Zwick; brother, Bruce (Ilene) Zwick; sisters, Caryn Zwick and Gloria Cuthbert; as well as long-time friend, Jim (Annette) Elsmore.

Mike was loved and will be missed by all of his family, friends, employees and customers. He is out of pain and at peace now with the Lord.
