May 3, 1960 ~ January 4, 2022 (age 61)

Obituary

Mark Ashburn, 61, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2022 with Dee, his loving wife of 38 years, by his side following a short, difficult and courageous battle with a rare cancer, cholangiocarcinoma.  He was a 1978 graduate of Manchester High School, where he and Dee met.

Mark and Dee married in June of 1983.  It was his witty sense of humor, kindness and love of the same music that first attracted Dee. Mark never missed a birthday or anniversary, always sending beautiful flowers and putting so much thought into each gift.  He always took such care to make each occasion special. The most memorable trips include; Mark’s 40th birthday in Las Vegas with a group of 28 friends and our trip to Italy with Mark’s longtime friend Kevin and his wife, Kathy, in 2003. Sadly, Kevin passed away 5 years ago but this trip will always be a cherished memory.

Mark completed his associate degree in business in 2009 from the University of Phoenix. He was employed with J.M. Smucker Co. for 11 years as a Field Service Team Lead - Equipment and Service in the food service division until the company restructured in early 2021.  Before that, he endured numerous company mergers; Quaker Oats, Superior Coffee, Sara Lee, to name a few.  Mark began his career of 42 years at Continental Coffee. He made many long lasting friendships in those years.

Mark was a member of the Turkeyfoot Sportsman Club for over 35 years. He had an ardent love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling and had recently taken up biking. Known to most of his friends as Bork, he took countless hunting and fishing trips together with his Panther Land Co. friends and partners, Danny, Kent, Jack and many other friends from the Sportsman club. One of the most unforgettable trips was to Montana in 2005. During his illness, Mark spent hours watching his favorite outdoor shows; Northwoods Law, Lone Star Law and Life Below Zero. Mark was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and was in an NFL pick of the week for over 20 years. He also loved baseball and the Cleveland Indians.

Mark loved life, had a huge generous heart, made people laugh and had a great devotion to his wife, family and friends.  Mark touched so many lives in so many ways and our hearts are broken into a million pieces.  He will be forever remembered. Thank you for all the support and prayers from family, friends and many kind people we didn’t know.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Louise Ashburn; infant brother, Kenny; father-in-law, Fritz Paolino; sister-in-law, Kim Paolino; and niece Nicole Happoldt.  He is survived by his wife, Dee; sisters, Bonnie (John) Gill, Yvonne (Bob Rombach) Wike, Sandy (Fred) Muffet; mother-in-law, Joyce (Bill) Adley; brothers-in-law, Mark (Renee), Ted (Jamie Ball) and Matt (Christie) Paolino; sister-in-law, Shelley (John) Dargie; as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A special thank you to Mark’s surgeon, Dr. Terence Jackson, for his remarkable kindness, compassion, uplifting spirit and prayers. Thank you for always keeping us positive and never giving up.  Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and techs who took care of Mark during his numerous hospital stays.
