Marianne Altmayer Obituary

Marianne Altmayer, 85, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 29, 1937, in Schwabach, Germany to the late Konrad and Margaret Rahnhöfer and immigrated to the United States in 1957 to join her soon-to-be husband, Steve, and his family.

Once settled in Akron, Marianne learned the English language and worked as a loving homemaker raising her kids and keeping very busy by cooking delicious meals, baking amazing desserts (especially her orange drop cookies), cleaning, maintaining the lawn, and much more.

Marianne and Steve were active members of the German Family Society and enjoyed singing with their friends in the Harmony Singers group.  They went to countless gatherings at the German club where they danced the night away.  Since Steve’s passing in 2004, Marianne thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and family.  They traveled on many beautiful vacations, went to many fun events, and shopped and browsed in many stores.  Marianne loved every animal and nature and was always so proud of her flowers and garden.

Marianne will always be remembered as a loving and generous Oma to everyone she met.  Even though Marianne always told her family how lucky she was to have them….. the truth is, we were all so lucky to have her.  We will miss her and love her forever.

Besides her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Altmayer; infant son, Robert; brother Ernst Rahnhöfer and sister Herta Hota in Germany.  She is survived by her son, Steve (Tammy) Altmayer; daughter, Heidi (Joe) Hopkins; grandchildren, Allyson and Megan Altmayer and Olivia Hopkins; brother-in-law, Josef Altmayer; sister-in-law, Marie (Carl) Spataro; as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Fr. Jeremy Merzweiler officiating.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the mass at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marianne’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, or to the Humane Society of Summit County, 7996 Darrow Road, STE 30, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.  To leave a special message online for the family and read more about Marianne’s life, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
