Maria (Smoley) Spigelmire

Maria Spigelmire, 104, passed away November 15, 2021.  She was born November 16, 1916 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to the late John Smoley and Julia (Paul) Vania.  During WWII Maria worked for Goodyear Aircraft Corporation as a Rosie the Riveter, where she met the love of her life Ira Spigelmire, they married in 1944.

Besides her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Spigelmire; daughter, Beverly; son, Gary; brother Joseph (Rose) Smoley and sister, Ann (Alfred) Arens.  She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Randall) Meadows, Sr.; grandchildren, Randall, Jr. (Barbara) and Richard (Mary) Meadows, Kenneth (Jenny) Spigelmire, and Michelle (Josh) Brooks; 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at NOON on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.  Memorial contributions can be made in Maria’s name to Cleveland Clinic/Philanthropy Institute, PO Box 931517, Cleveland, Ohio 44193-1655, Please write Justin T.
