Leonard Scrimgeour Obituary

An extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Leonard Scrimgeour, 94, passed away on March 13, 2023.  He was born December 8, 1928, in Akron to the late James and Margaret Scrimgeour.  Upon graduation from Garfield High School Leonard was accepted and entered Goodyear’s apprenticeship program and went on to complete the Goodyear squad program, having a very successful and rewarding career of 44 years.

Leonard met his bride-to-be, Margaret, and the idyllic family began. Leonard and Margaret celebrated 48 years of marriage.  Always putting family first, he attended every sporting event, and activity he could through three generations.  A yearly tradition looked forward to by all the family, was “Thanksgiving at the cabins with the Davies”.  Leonard’s storytelling was epic, whether factual or of his unique imagination and you never knew which one you were getting.  Leonard was an avid lover of history, particularly the Civil War and Scottish Ancestry.  Leonard cherished his golfing buddies, the Bengals and especially “The Ohio State” Buckeyes.  If you were close to Leonard, please cherish the “Grab….and Tickle” as they were his signature way of showing he cherished you.

Besides his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.  He is survived by his daughter, Suzann (Bob) Byard; sons, John (Joan Guillory), and James (Mary) Scrimgeour; grandsons, Andrew (Lindsey), Alexander (Jessica), Aaron (Carrie) Byard, Austin (Emily), and Eric Scrimgeour; great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Brayden, Mia, and Mara; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at NOON on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Don Davies officiating.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. or on Saturday for one hour before the service all at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Leonard to the American Battlefield Trust, 1156 15th Street NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20005, or by going to www.battlesfields.org    To leave a special message for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
