Larry Ryba, 73, passed away on January 1, 2023. He was born July 6, 1949, in Euclid to the late Edward and Harriett Ryba.
Larry was a graduate of Purdue University where he studied Industrial Management and was part of the Chi Alpha Fraternity. He met his wife, Vicky, through Greek Life when she was visiting her sorority chapter at his school. Larry retired from Parker Hannifin with 37 years of service focusing on inside, outside, and international sales.
Larry was an avid sports fanatic. He loved golfing, boating, fishing, music, traveling and going on adventures. He especially enjoyed spending his retirement years on the Portage Lakes, taking his grandkids tubing, and doing his best to throw them off! At the end of the day, he loved to cook and grill dinner for his friends and family.
Larry volunteered in many organizations and committees throughout his life, last serving as a member on the Board of Trustees for the American Foundation to Aid the Poor (AFAP).
Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky, and brothers, Jack and James Ryba. He is survived by his children, Michael (Kristin) and Jennifer (Scott) Thayer; grandchildren, Rylee, Zachery, Nathen, Maximus, and Mason; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Barbara Ryba; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from NOON until the time of the celebration on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made in Larry’s name to American Foundation to Aid the Poor (AFAP), 3939 Massillon Road, STE 801-9, Uniontown, Ohio 44685. The funds from this foundation help sponsor Christian-led surgical teams to remote areas of third-world countries.
