Larry L. Johnston

Larry Johnston, 82, passed away on February 19, 2023.  He was born on April 29, 1940, in Akron to the late Donnelly and Fern Johnston.  Larry attended Green Local Schools and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 with the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany. He was a tank driver in the Russian Border Patrol.  Larry retired from Gauer Mold and Machine.  He loved working in his yard, going to the shooting range, and was a long-time member of Cottage Grove E. C. Church.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Joanne; son, Kevin; and brother, Ronald Johnston.  He is survived by his son, Keith (Jenny) Johnston; daughters, Nanette Himes and Nancy (Charles) Krueger; grandchildren, Donovan Gauer, Alicia Johnston, Ashley Johnston, Natalie Smith, Avery Johnson, Zachary (Jenna), Drake, and Terence Dibble; sisters, Donna Strosaker and Debbie (Hoy) Oligney; sister-in-law, Carolyn Wilborn; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at NOON on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
