Kurt Willgues Obituary

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years.”

Kurt Willgues, 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on January 30, 2024.  He was born in Akron on January 31, 1964. He was a 1982 Green High School graduate with a welding certification from the Portage Lakes Joint Vocational School.

Upon graduation, Kurt worked as a tradesman acquiring the skills and knowledge that he would use to create KE Willgues Construction in the early 1990s. The love of his community and work ethic led him to his next chapter—the creation of Willgues Warehouse & Storage and Ultimate Flooring in 2005.

Kurt will be remembered for his unfailing love of his family and life, infectious personality, and smile. He loved playing golf, being home and working around the house especially mowing his lawn, traveling with his family and friends, and the thrill of adventure.

Kurt was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Solkoski, and father-in-law and father figure Ken Payne. He is survived by his adoring and faithful wife of 35 years, Connie, whom he met in the second grade. Their unwavering love story spanned over 50 years. He was an incredibly dedicated father to his two daughters, Jessi and Maggie. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Judy Payne; brothers Kent Willgues and Bob Solkoski; sister-in-law, Sherry and Jay Herman; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Never knowing a stranger and being the definition of a true friend, he will be missed by all of us. His legacy and lessons will live on for a hundred lifetimes.

“I always said I wanted to go Mach 5, with my hair on fire, sliding headfirst into home plate screaming,”
“Man, What A Ride!”
