Keith Collett, 74, passed away on October 24, 2023. He was born on March 16, 1949, in Akron to the late John and Dorothy (Smartt) Collett. Keith was a 1967 graduate of Champion High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron in 1971.
Keith retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after a 38-year career in sales and marketing in the industrial products division. When Goodyear sold the division to Veyance Technologies, Keith continued his position as hose marketing manager until retiring in 2011. He was a recipient of the Charles Goodyear Award for sales in 1985, the Goodyear Spirit Award for sales in 1988, and an award for outstanding marketing achievement in 1992. After his retirement, He was most honored to receive the George Carver Award from NAHAD, the Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to industry excellence.
Keith was a man of faith, and the church always held a strong role in his life. Serving as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, elder, and Bible study leader, and occasionally delivering the Sunday message showed his love for the Lord. His desire was to develop disciples and to encourage young men in their faith.
After retirement, his love of history led him to volunteer with the Summit Co. Historical Society as a docent for the Perkins Mansion and John Brown House. Also, serving as a member of the Board of Directors. Football, especially Akron Zips football, was another of his passions. As a season ticket holder for several decades, he was an ever-patient and loyal fan. The weather was never too bad that he wouldn’t stay till the last second of the game.
Besides his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his infant son, Justin. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynette; sons, Keith, Chad (Carolyn), and Brett (Vanessa) Collett; grandchildren, Aljexi (Ryan) Zimmerman, Hailey (Alec Sukenik) and Keira Collett, Tage Collett, Maya and Maura Collett; 2 great-granddaughters; brother, Jon (Melinda) Collett; sisters, Kathy (Sam) Subity and Jan Lepley; as well as many other loving family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Orchard Hill Church, 2545 W. Comet Road, Clinton, Ohio 44216. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319, or on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
