John “Pop-Pop” Clevinger, 71, passed away September 10, 2020. He was born December 2, 1948 in Pikeville, Kentucky. During the Vietnam Era John was a Jet Engine mechanic for the U.S. Air Force. He was also the proud owner of a truck and trailer repair shop / Ryder truck rental.
John was a simple man who was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Woodworking was his most passionate hobby where his creations came to life in the form of jewelry boxes, tables and clocks. By creating these he touched many, many lives. His philosophy in life was, “The choices you make determine the life you live.” And “Work hard, Be kind and Amazing things will happen”.
John is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Shannon Clevinger and Jennifer (Ben) Kovach; grandchildren, Olivia and Avery; son; Billy Poling; brothers-in-law, Rick (Jamie) and Larry (Charlie) Long and nieces; as well as many other loving family and friends.
Per John’s wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3 to 5 P.M. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd.
