John Hoffman, 88, passed away on June 17, 2023. He was born in Akron on April 11, 1935, to the late John Sr. and Millie Hoffman. John was a lifetime resident of Green and was a 1953 graduate of Greensburg High School.
John retired from Goodyear International with 37 years of service, where he traveled extensively throughout the world and served an integral role in the installation of Goodyear's first IBM computer. John was an active member of his community serving in many roles. He was president of the Green Pee Wee Booster Club, Greensburg Lions Club, and Turkeyfoot Sportsman's Club where he implemented a scholarship fund for local graduates. He was active in Boy Scouts, instrumental in the vision of Green becoming a city, served on the Green Planning and Zoning Committee for years, and was an usher for Queen of Heaven Church. John was a skilled woodworker who could build just about anything including birdhouses, cars, trains, and mangers for his many children and grandchildren.
John’s many interests included traveling especially winter trips to Madeira Beach & making new friends at all their stops along the way. He took pride in driving his 65' Ford Mustang, especially taking all his grandkids on trips through Amish country, reading his daily Beacon Journal, having morning coffee at McDonald's with his friends, and eating biscuits and gravy on Sunday, after church, at Bob Evans with his beautiful wife. John's yard was the envy of all his neighbors, he took great pride in his meticulously manicured yard. But most of all, he loved his family and especially enjoyed attending and cheering on all his grandchildren at their many sporting events, he was their biggest fan!!
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John Hoffman III; sisters, Rosemarie and Jacqueline; son-in-law, Scott Seibel; and grandsons, Corey and Jacob Seibel. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Arlene (Oplinger) Hoffman; sons Dirk and David Hoffman; daughters, Kim (Martin) Rogers and Tanya Seibel; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; as well as many other family and friends.
John was bigger than life, a great storyteller, loved by all, and will be greatly missed. He would want us all to live by his favorite quote "Make today a great day!".
