Jean Welch Obituary

Jean Welch, 88, passed away October 17, 2021.  She was born on February 27, 1933 in Akron to the late Albert and Anna Kovarik, who were immigrants from a small town in Czechoslovakia.

Jean attended Tallmadge High School and Ellet High School. She was head majorette and homecoming queen both in high school and at The University of Akron. She was president of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority through which she made wonderful lifelong friends. She felt privileged and honored to teach first grade and kindergarten at Akron Public Schools and at Coventry Schools. She dearly loved “her kids” (students) and her fellow teachers and school administrators.  Her “lunch bunch” friends and Turkeyfoot Heights Women’s Club friends were also especially dear to her heart. She loved you all so much.

Her pride and greatest joy was her family. She was especially loved and devoted to her loving husband of 65+ year, Harry. She deeply loved and adored her 3 children and 8 grandchildren. She taught all of them to read, to love learning and the Golden Rule. To this day, the grandchildren’s artwork projects are displayed on the Welch Family Wall of Fame in the recreation room and they can sing all the Letter People songs; many Coventry students would be quick to join in that chorus! She passionately attended countless number of football, wrestling & lacrosse games, concerts, musicals, dance performances, cooking lessons in her kitchen & Jeopardy  –  and so much more – everyone knew her as “PT” their #1 fan. Her sense of humor, warm beautiful smile and contagious laugh encouraged everyone. She will be remembered as a compassionate, fun, caring, forgiving, and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and that she was deeply devoted to her Catholic Faith. Jean will always be loved by many.

Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by an infant sister; as well as sister, Emily (George) Shultz.  She is survived by her loving husband, Harry Welch; son, Jeff (Lisa) Welch; daughters, Kerry (David) Diver and Lynn Welch; grandchildren, Jesse, Corey (Christina), Brynne (Anthony), Kailey (Matt), Kendall (Joe), Camden, Shawna and Jeffrey; sister-in-law, Georgia (Glen) Sheets; nephew, David Vance; as well as many other loving family and friends.
