Jean Alice (Bisson) McGowan

Jean McGowan, 97, passed away peacefully October 27, 2018. She was born March 9, 1921 in Cleveland to the late William and Emma Bisson. Jean lived life to the fullest. She deeply loved her family, friends and the Lord. Jean was happiest attending and serving at church. She often said that “Sunday was the best day of the week” and was an active member of Lakeview Christian Church, Church members enjoyed her hugs and warm smile as she greeted faithfully until the age of 96.

Jean loved traveling the United States and going on cruises to see the world.  She also enjoyed visiting Amish Country, volunteering, playing cards, eating Barberton chicken and a good Bloody Mary! Jean was given service awards from the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio, Canton Christian Home and the Portage Lakes Chapter of AARP.

Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Spohn, Sr.; second husband, Robert Swiney and third husband, William McGowan; son, Donald Spohn, Jr.; daughter, Diana Allshouse; brother, William Bisson, Jr.; grandsons, Patrick Wiley and William Allshouse Jr.; and granddaughter, Michelle Spohn-Anderson.  She is survived by son, Bruce (Barbara) Spohn; grandchildren, Jean (Tim) Criss, Michael (Mary) Allshouse, Tammy Allshouse, Dawn (Roche) Harmon, Laurie (Zdenko) Zalac, Bruce (Melissa) Spohn Jr., David Spohn, Douglas (Julie) Spohn, and Dennis (Jennifer) Spohn; 31 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister-in-law, Mary Bisson; daughter-in-law Brenda Spohn; as well as many other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 6 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Lakeview Christian Church, 4613 S. Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Darryl Moulder officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 3 P.M. until time of the service at the church. A private inurnment will take place at Lakewood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to Association for Benevolence Care, C/O Canton Christian Home, 2550 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, Ohio 44709 or to Lakeview Christian Church.
