Jay Rockhold, 50, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2023. He was born a firecracker on July 4, 1972, in Akron to the late Glen Rockhold and Joyce (nee Currey) Rockhold.
Jay was a loving, devoted and loyal husband to his wife, Cristan (nee Loos) and an amazing father to his two children, Jett and Taylor. He was a dedicated and resilient employee of Marathon Oil Petroleum for 16 years, working countless hours to support his family. His mastermind and chemical brilliance also served him at BASF doing scientific experiments and chemical research at Goodyear Tire Company with his father.
When he wasn’t working, Jay loved motorcycles, cool cars and bonfires. He was a musical genius and taught himself to read music and to play the guitar with the stroke of his magical touch.
Jay was bigger than life, loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Glen; grandparents, Oscar and Sammie Currey; and many other family members that were taken far too soon. He is survived by his loving wife of 11 ½ years, Cristan; son, Jett Rockhold; step-daughter, Taylor McCarty, whom he called his own; mother, Joyce; brothers, Chris (Patty) and Tracy (Crystal) Rockhold; nieces and nephews, McKenna, Erik (Katie), Aaron and Ashleigh Rose Rockhold; great niece and nephews, Keira, Wyatt, Kallen; mother-in-law, Paula “Nana” Loos; and many other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319, with Rev. Chuck Bahl officiating.
