James H. Shimp

Jim Shimp, 97, passed away March 13, 2018. He was born February 9, 1921 in Akron to the late Elmer and Rose Shimp. 

He was a retired machinist from Goodyear Tire & Rubber.  He lived his life to the fullest.  He loved being around his family.  Anyone who knew him, knew how much he loved fishing and enjoyed all kinds of music; from classical to hard rock.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, of 57 years, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  He is survived by sons, Jim (Donna), Todd (Susan) and Neal (Cheri) Shimp; daughters, Bobbie (Lyn) Smith, Joy (Dave) Dutt, and Jill Tolson; grandchildren, Jim (Sharon) Shimp, Sam Shimp, Holly Wilson, Eric (Sarah) Shimp, Mike (Audrey) Shimp, Ryan (Sarah) Shimp, Sherrie (Clint) Miller, Tracey (Russell) Benson, Debbie Lucas, Tisha Canfield, Jesse (Christine) Conner, Shawn (Magdalene) Conner; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild as well as many other family and friends.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Fr. Bearer officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Cottage Grove E.C.
