James Nicholas, Sr. Obituary

Jim Nicholas, 83, went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2022, after a year and a half courageous fight.   He was born October 8, 1938, in Akron to the late William and Elizabeth Nicholas and was a life-long resident.  Jim graduated from East High School in 1956 and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1996 after building tires, air-springs and finally working in the Banbury room.

After retirement, Jim loved traveling with his wife Catherine through the AAA Akron Travel Club on many adventures across the country and abroad. When Jim wasn’t traveling, you could find him on the golf course from March through the end of October, as he was an avid golfer. Jim would schedule everything around his golf schedule in the summertime. If he wasn’t golfing, he was manicuring his lawn. Jim was known in the neighborhood for his “award-winning” lawn with no weeds and perfectly cut grass. And in the evenings, he would be outside on the house's front porch reading a book as he was hooked on James Patterson novels.

Jim showed his family what it meant to work hard and reap the benefits of your labors. He showed his kids that you never called anyone to do what you could do on your own. He told his kids that if they were able to perform the work around the house, then they can sit back when completed and enjoy the results. He was right.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his in-laws John and Lillian Riley.  Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine; son, James, Jr. (Roberta); daughter, Debra (Steven) Romanowski; grandchildren, Cassandra and Justin (Nora) Nicholas and Paige Romanowski; sisters, Pauline Tinker and Marlene (Cliff) Baker; brothers, Jack (Linda) and Nick (Lynda) Nicholas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
