Jim Hooks, 73, sadly passed away December 22, 2021 after a long and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born January 30, 1948 in Akron to the late Walter and Beatrice Hooks. Jim was a 1966 graduate of Garfield High School, retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 2007 with 37 years of service as a machinist and a Union Representative.
Jim was very skilled with his hobbies of hunting, fishing, gardening and wine making, growing his own grapes for his wine. After retirement, Jim enjoyed being a member of the Turkeyfoot Sportsman Club and Marshallville American Legion Post 718. Jim was a very big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Sandi Hooks; brothers, Tom (Cindy), Mark and Kevin (Jenny) Hooks; sisters, Paula (Brad) Haben, Susan (Dave) Kirkland and Nancy (Darin) Springford; as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Per Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Fr. Jermey Merzweiler officiating. The family is asking all in attendance to please wear a mask. Private family inurnment will take place at Holy Cross.
