Irene J. (Cole) Hudson

Irene Hudson, 98, passed away on November 15, 2022.  She was born March 11, 1924, in Barberton to the late William and Donna Cole but grew up in Adamsville on the family farm during the Great Depression.

After graduating from Adamsville High School and with America’s entry into WWII on the horizon, Irene moved to Akron to live with her aunt and work on the production line building corsairs.  She later met and married Charles Hudson and they started their family with a son and two daughters.  The family eventually grew to include three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mom was strong in her faith and a member of the Akron Baptist Temple.  She was intelligent and creative, designing her own house and making sure during construction that it was made exactly to her specifications.  The home became the focal point of most holidays, birthdays, and extended family gatherings for all but the last few years of her life.  For so many, she was the go-to person for the help and counsel needed to navigate their lives.  Her door was always open and her ear available no matter how late into the night the discussion took.

Irene was a lover of chocolate, music from classical to county, camping, and travel among other things.  But always most important to her were family and friends.

Along with her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years at the age of 76, Charles Roy Hudson; brothers, Calvin, Orville, Marvin, Howard, and Alvin; sister, Ruth; along with her very close friend and confidante, Vickie Hudson.  Left to remember her love is her son, Al (Ginger) Hudson; daughters, Donna and Shellie Hudson; grandchildren, Ryan (Jen) Derhammer, Meghan (Jason) Storch, and Zachary (Heather) Hudson; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Jaina Hudson, Jase and Jude Storch, Adele, Mikayla, Kennedy, Ben, Gabe, and Cora Lewis; many nieces and nephews, specifically Alan, Sheila, and Crystal; as well as close family friends, Deb Spencer and Dorothy Schroeder.

Funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.
