Gene Kalamajka, 66, passed away on April 1, 2024. He was born in Barberton on January 6, 1958, to the late William and Pearl Kalamajka. Gene served in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1976-1981. He was a volunteer firefighter for Coventry Township from 1979 to 1982. Gene worked for Revere Local School System for 30 years with the nickname of Grumpy. He took pride in his work, caring for the school and making it look good. All the kids and faculty did and will always hold a special place in his heart and ours.
Gene always spoke highly of his loving wife of 47 years, Debbie. They enjoyed spending their weekends going to estate sales, antique car shows, flea markets, cruising in their ‘73 Mustang convertible, Sunday family dinners, traveling, vacations, and camping with family and friends. Gene enjoyed woodworking, trains, and spending time with his family, especially his Butterball. He hunted with his son, family, and close friends every fall. He was an avid collector of knives and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his grandsons and spending time with his daughter passing on his knowledge on how to be independent.
Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Elma Breitenstine; brother, James Byers, and sister, Joyce Byers. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Kalamajka; son, Geno (Amanda) Kalamajka; daughter, Regina (Brian) Macey; daughter from another mother, Faith Norman; grandchildren, Aysa (Michael) Morrison, Dallas, and Jace Steiner; great-grandson, Pierce William Morrison; brother, Stephen Kalamajka; as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.
