Gay L. (Stewart) Wootan

Gay Wootan, 87, passed away on October 6, 2023.  She was born on September 6, 1936, in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Ivan and Lela Stewart. 

Gay was a sweet and loving mom who loved her family dearly.  She enjoyed listening to country music, especially Alan Jackson.  Her closest companion after Dad passed was her loyal dog, Rambo. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her special friends from her apartment, Ann and Buddy.  Also, to the staff at Pebble Creek for the care and compassion you showed Gay and her family.

Along with her parents, Gay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, Sr.; brother, Chuck Stewart, and sister, Barbara Oliver.  She is survived by her sons, Robert, Jr. (Sandy), Dean (Maureen), and Link (Christina); grandchildren Tim, Amy, Link II, and Jeremy; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Valerie) Robinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.       

A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd, Akron, Ohio 44319 (SR 619) with Eric Franciso officiating.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  A private family inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.   To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
