Elizabeth A. (Patterson) Matthews

Elizabeth Matthews, 81, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2022.  She was born on October 23, 1940, to the late Jefferson and Grace Patterson.

Our precious mother was loved by all. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren and found joy in helping others in need. She was very active and enjoyed working in her flower and fairy gardens. Elizabeth loved to be surrounded by her pets Dakota, Gracie, Biscuit, and the late D.J.

Besides her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, David A.; son, David T.; brother, Robert Patterson; sister, Bonnie Taylor; nephews, Ken Hager and Ken Jodon. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Smith, and Tamara Hoffman; grandchildren, David R. Matthews, Nicholas (Jennifer) Matthews, Anthony Smith, Tiffany (Andrew Wakefield) Nicolard, and Samuel (Jessica) Nicolard; step-grandchildren, David, Mike, and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Taytum, and Corbin; brother, Kenneth Patterson; sister, Mary Owings; special friend, Dorothy Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family extends a special thank you to Elizabeth’s brother, Kenneth, for his constant love and devotion to his sister; neighbors, Tracey, Jeremy, Janet, and Ronnie, for their love of our mother. We found comfort in knowing she was in the best care. Mom always quoted, “I have the best neighbors, ever”. Also, a thank you to Vicki Kaminski for taking care of mom’s hair.

Funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Monday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  The interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
