Dave Gordon, Sr., 97, of Green passed away September 24, 2021. He was born July 17, 1924 in Akron to the late David P. and Hazel Gordon. Dave served in the 86th Ground Army Forces during WWII in Germany and the Philippine Islands and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company with over 30 years of service.
Besides his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Gordon (nee Berg); sons, Gerald and Mark Gordon; sister, Virginia Banas; daughter-in-law, Collena (nee Branham) Gordon; brothers-in-law, Mike Banas, James Arbour, Bernarr King II, Wallace (Alice) William and Wayne Berg; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Harold) Blackwood. He is survived by his son, David W. Jr.; daughter, Joyce (Mike) Downey; grandchildren, Jennifer Gordon, Jonathan (Jennifer) Gordon, Kelle (Joe) Weaver, Daniel Gordon, Joshua Downey, Nicole (Sean) Richards, Kyle Downey, Jason Gordon, Jenna Gordon; great grandchildren Erik Deshotel, Justin (Yao) Gordon, Gregory Gordon, Alyssa Gordon, Augustus Weaver, Isabella Gordon, Gabriel Gordon, Serenity Downey; Ansley Richards, Paige Richards, and William Richards; sisters, Dorothy Arbour, Faith King and Joan Ward; daughters-in-law, Marilyn and Marsha Gordon.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful and dedicated Summa Hospice employees who cared for our dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. A special thank you goes to his nurse, Amy Foltz; health aide, Jeremy Cadwallader; Chaplain, Terry Arnold; massage therapist, Tracy and Dr. Meredith Driscoll.
We would also like to thank his primary care doctor, Dr. David Jackson, for the many years of outstanding care he provided.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. A private family interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
