Carol Basinger, 83, passed away suddenly in her home on March 17, 2021. She was born July 10, 1937 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania to the late George and Mabel Hays and moved to Akron in 1953, where she worked at Ohio Bell.
Carol married Gerald Basinger in 1955 and resided in Castle Homes, where they raised their family. She was a woman of strong faith and was dedicated to her husband and family. Carol enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and crafting. She always said she was a “Jack of all Trades, Master of None.” Carol touched many lives through child evangelism and her home was always open to anyone.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, Sr. and sister, Marilyn Rouse. She leaves her daughters, Cynthia (Paul) Schlichting and Cathy (Gary) Taylor; sons, Gerald Basinger, Jr., Barry (Tammie) Basinger, and Jeffrey (Sherry) Basinger; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Wirtenberger (Roger); brother, Jim (Bonnie) Hays; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Per Carol’s request, private family services will be held, and she will be laid to rest with her husband at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
