Bruce A. Cathey

Bruce Cathey, 78, of Green passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021.  He was born March 21, 1943 in Canton to the late Clifford and Thelma Cathey.  Bruce attended Green High School and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.  He is retired from Con-Way Freight (now XPO Logistics) and was a volunteer firefighter for Green Fire Department.  Bruce was an active member of Greensburg Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  He developed a love of horses as a young boy and even had his own horse as a teenager.  He loved being outdoors and proud of his flower gardens.

Besides his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford, Jr., Marvin, Richard and Robert.  He is survived by his daughter, Megan; sisters, Mary Baileys, Barbara (Robert) Archer, Deloras (Patrick) Mazzei and Joyce Eveleth; grandchildren, Alyssa, Zach and Leah; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Memorial contributions can be made in Bruce’s name to the American Cancer Society, 3500 Embassy Parkway, STE 150, Akron, Ohio 44333 or to the American Heart Association Local Chapter,
