Art Berndt, 83, passed away February 2, 2020. He was born May 17, 1936 in Cleveland to the late Arthur and Edna Berndt. Art was a member of the Graphics Communications International Union as a photo engraver, retiring in 1997 with 45 years of service. He was an avid golfer exceptional bowler who competed in many leagues over his lifetime. Art loved watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, playing pinochle with his wife Mary, friends Marge and Lenny. He enjoyed classic country music and was a self-taught acoustic guitar player and organist. He loved playing guitar for his family and friends at the neighborhood get-togethers. Art had a knack for storytelling and had a tremendous sense of humor. No matter where Art went, he made friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; sons, Michael and Eddie (Annette) Berndt; granddaughters, Christine and Victoria Berndt; as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
