Alan Hale, 77, passed away on July 6, 2022. He was born in Freeport, Illinois on March 16, 1945, to the late Jack and Phyllis Hale, later, with his family, he moved to Akron.
Alan enlisted in the Army at 18 and served 3 years during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in both France and Germany as an E5 Sergeant. In 1968, he met Joan Meredith and they married a year later. Alan worked at B.F. Goodrich for 20 years and then at the Akron Beacon Journal where he retired after 20 years of service. Alan attended the Gospel Assembly Church in Green where he served as an usher, worked in the building program, as a photographer, and sang in the choir.
Besides his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his son, Mark; brother, David; and nephew Teddy Crown. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan; daughter, Martha (Don) Stonaker; grandchildren, Evan, Hudson, and Chloe; sisters, Sandy (Clifford) Crown and Linda Hale (Carol Dobbins); many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Rick Moore officiating. Family and friends may call on Monday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A private family interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
