Adam Klein, 85, passed away on June 9, 2022. He was born October 16, 1936, in Yugoslavia to the late John and Barbara Klein.
Adam arrived in Akron, Ohio at the age of 12 and attended Hower Vocational School where he participated in the Aviation and National Thespian clubs. He went on to attend the University of Akron where he studied engineering but soon fell in love with business outside of school instead. With the love and support of the LaGuardia family, he rented out space in their chicken and produce market to sell seafood.
Adam was drafted into the Army in 1960 where he served as a Staff Sergeant until he was honorably discharged in 1962. After his time in the military, he came back home to Akron where he stayed busy working at the fish market, driving trucks, and working for Railway Express. During this time, he met and fell in love with his loving wife of 57 years, LaRue Timms.
In the 1980s, with the help of his wife and children, he started a new fish market Adam Klein’s Seafood on Grant Street where he continued to serve the community until his retirement in 2002. Although retired, he found joy and peace at the fish market, being constantly surrounded by friends and family, and continued working almost every day for another 18 years. When he wasn’t working you could often find him spending time with his kids and grandkids, barbequing ribs, boating on Portage Lakes, traveling to Germany and North Carolina, telling stories from his trips to Europe, his time in the military, and growing up overseas during the war.
Besides his parents, Adam was preceded in death by his sister, Annette Brady. He is survived by his loving wife, LaRue Klein; son, Curt (Laura) Klein; daughter, Lisa (Eric) Castner; grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy, Mark (fiancée Allie), Bailey (fiancée Jelena), Evan, Lydia, and Alex; brothers, Paul (Peggie) and John (Susan) Klein; sisters, Madeline Brown and Katherine Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 with Fr. Ralph Coletta officiating.
