William Hrdlicka

William Hrdlicka departed this life on May 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Green.  Born October 18, 1923 in Cleveland, Bill moved to Akron where he graduated from Ellet High School.  During World War II, Bill proudly served in the Army Air Force.  Stationed in Egypt, Bill serviced and repaired planes damaged in combat.  He received an accounting degree from Actual Business College and was a graduate of the Goodyear Squadron.  Bill worked at Goodyear Aerospace for 41 years, developing life-long friendships and most importantly, meeting the love of his life, Sally.  He was a production supervisor and foreman in several departments, included his favorite, Lighter-than-Air.  Bill was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Akron, often serving as an usher on Sunday mornings.

Bill loved most being with family & friends.  He was an avid golf and card player and enjoyed doing anything outside including gardening, fishing, hunting and even mowing the lawn.  After retiring Bill cherished traveling with his wife Sally.  They toured Europe, the Panama Canal and wintered in Hilton Head.  But his favorite adventure was a two-month trip across Canada and Alaska, sleeping in the back of their conversion van.  And did we mention, he loved playing golf.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years, Sarah “Sally”; son, Kurt (Cheryl) Hrdlicka; daughter, Kathy (John) Davis; grandchildren, Kelly (Chris) Houston, Kathy (Greg) Polovick, and Kevin Hrdlicka; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Allison, Jax and Grayson; brother, Richard (Judy) Hrdlicka; brother-in-law, James (Valerie) Beall; nieces and nephews, Ann, Cheryl (Scott), Karen, Merrilea (Michael), Rogers (Beth), Patricia (Bart), Bradley and Candice (Jeff) as well as many other loving family and friends. 

The family would like to thank Summa at Home and Direction Home for their support during this past year, especially Shavonne, Jeremy and Elizabeth.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at NOON on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill Street, Akron, Ohio 44308 with Rev. Doug Gregory officiating.  Family and friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. at the church.  Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in Bill’s name to the Direction Home Akron Canton, 1550 Corporate Woods Parkway, Uniontown, Ohio 44685.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
