Thomas F. Dowd

December 17, 1952 ~ October 23, 2018 (age 65)

Thomas Dowd - Canton Businessman and Entrepreneur

Tom Dowd, 65, passed away October 23, 2018.  He was born on December 17, 1952 to Jean and the late Robert Dowd.  Tom was born and raised in the Shore Acres neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio.  He was first and foremost a family man – a son, brother, husband, father, and uncle.  Family tradition was instilled in him by his parents.

Tom cherished his time with family and shared his passion with them.  He enjoyed being on or near Lake Erie, from his boats to the house he owned on the Cedar Point beach, where he spent the summer weekends and holidays with his large extended family.  Tom went to work and live in Canton, Ohio in his early 20s for a central vacuum distributor.  He and his wife grew Vacuflo of Ohio into one of the largest distributors in the country, still operating today.  Tom grew his business with a flair for marketing with his unique use of animatronics.  Tom loved classic movies and their music.  He was also a talented artist that trusted everyone and would do anything for anybody.  Tom lived his life his way.  Thanks for the wonderful memories, Tom!

Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vickie (nee Tolin); sons, Sean, Shane, and Ryan; mother, Jean Dowd; siblings, Kathy (Michael) Roach, Mary (John) Lillash, Bill Dowd, Patrick (Kathy) Dowd, and Jane (Michael) Skoch; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Church of Massillon, 206 Cherry Rd. NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646 with Fr. Gretchko officiating.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd.
