Ronald Black Obituary

Ron Black, 85, passed away April 26, 2019.  He was born September 13, 1933 in Akron to the late Roy and Myrtle Black. Ron was a graduate of Garfield High School, married his high school sweetheart Shirley and moved to the Green area.  Ron proudly earned his Eagle Scout, worked for Firestone for 32 years, loved playing basketball and softball for the Firestone Industrial League.  He coached baseball and softball for Green Little League while his boys were young.  Ron served on the Green Board of Education and was instrumental in the creation of Portage Lakes Joint Vocational School and served as the first president of the board.  Ron was a member of Firestone Park Christian Church, serving on the board, elder, deacon and taught teen Sunday School.

Ron is going to be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially those who he and Shirley would travel with throughout the world.  He was known for his wit and telling of a good joke.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley; sons, Bryan (Marcia), David (Beran); and Stuart (Christy) Black; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Gabe), Corey (Kerry), Alexander, Charlotte, Ryan, Courtney; great grandchildren, Preston and Kennedy; as well as many other loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dawn, Amber and the staff of Crossroads Hospice for the love and care you gave to not just Ron but to the entire Black family.
