Robert V. Bates

Robert Bates, 60, of Green passed away January 29, 2018.  He was born May 25, 1957 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to the late Robert and Patricia Bates.

Robert was the pinnacle of altruism. A perfect example of what everyone should strive to be in life, Robert dedicated his entire existence to the people he loved. His work-torn hands were an example to the daily sacrifice he made for his family. Every dime he earned went to the ones he loved and he made sure his children knew they had to work just as hard to get somewhere in life. He was the glue that kept his family together and will continue to be the rock they stand on for the rest of their lives. Whether you needed advice or words of wisdom, Robert had an answer for everything and the scripture to back it up. His kind words always came with a smile and a laugh. Robert’s family knows that he is in a better place now; they envision him moving into his late son Seth’s mansion in Heaven and hanging out in the garage listening to Tom Hamilton. His children will greatly miss their father and his grandchildren will greatly miss their Paw-Paw. Robert is and will always be a Marine. Attaining the rank of Corporal, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980 – "oorah".

Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Seth Bates.  He is survived by his sons, Shane (Amy), Bobby (Jen), Logan and Landon Bates; daughters, Brittany, Jillian (Johnny Feathers), Courtney and Lyndsey Bates; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Kathy Schleis); sisters, Kathie (Kenny) Halter and Cinny (Ted) Kolp; mother of his children, Myra Bates; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.   

Funeral service will be held at 4 P.M. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  A private family interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to www.gofundme.com/robert-bates-memorial-fund.
