Richard "Dick" P. Schroeter, Sr

Dick Schroeter, 80, passed away on May 16, 2017 with his wife and son by his side.  Dick was born in Canton, grew up in North Industry, Ohio but spent the last 35 years in the Portage Lakes.  Dick was an electrician by trade, working a number of years at General Tire in Akron and at the Chrysler stamping plant in Twinsburg, but was a master of many trades, including plumbing, welding, and carpentry. Many of his pieces of handmade furniture and kitchen gadgets will live on for years in the hands of friends and family. He was also an avid motorcyclist and Harley Davidson enthusiast, riding his Harley up to just two months before his death.  He was a lifetime member of HOG and member of the Rubber City HOG Chapter.

Dick will be remembered as a tough man.  When once asked by a condescending OSHA inspector where his superior was, he retorted, “I have no superiors and damn few equals.” This was how Dick lived, on his terms and beholden to no one.  At times his gruff personality lost him some friends, but those who loved him remained close to him to the very end.

Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth; stepmother, Rosemary; father, Otto; and sisters, Naomi Schroeter and Linda Walters.  He is survived by his wife, of 37 years, Teresa (nee Parravani); children, Debra (James) Ingraham, Tamie (Gary) Blye, Dawn (Dennis) McGonigal, and Rick (Lindsay) Schroeter; grandchildren, Kevin, Jamie, Dennis, Alex, Sophia, and Elena; several great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Terry Walters.

Dick’s family would like to extend a special thank you to doctors Jeremy Johnson and David Cutler for their extraordinary care and compassion, and to Dick and Teresa’s longtime neighbors Don and Kathy and Mike and Pamela.
