It is with a heavy heart that the family of Michael Hatch announces his passing on Wednesday, July 25th, 2018, at the age of 67.
Mike was known and loved by so many. Born to a family that had a love of sports, he began playing baseball at age four on Colt Field, the family baseball diamond and continued through his school years playing football, basketball and baseball. His passion for football began in high school where he played defensive back for Garfield High School. Mike went on to attend The University of Akron, where he continued his love for the sport, earning the honor of First Team All-American as a defensive back in 1971. He graduated from the College of Education and began a 37-year teaching career in Health and Physical Education. Mike started his coaching career at The University of Akron, was assistant coach at several local high schools and ultimately spent eight years as head coach at Kenmore High School, passing his love of the game on to many of his players. Mike was inducted into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.
His love and dedication to his wife and family was profound, and he was loved just as much in return. He was a loyal friend to so many. Mike was known for his desire to stay active and would be the first to get people up and moving. A respected man with so much love, laughter, energy, and happiness, Mike was always the life of the party, a great story teller who enjoyed every moment to its fullest. He had many interests, most notably his passion for music; a talented musician, who along with his brother, Steve, played in several bands.
Mike will be held close to our hearts and forever remembered by his loving wife of 26 years, Carole (nee Johnson); two sons, Dustin (Renee) and Johnny (Heather). Son to the late Wade and Kathleen; and son-in-law to Vern and Dorothy Johnson. He was a loving brother to Sharon Schoenberg and the late Stephen. He is also survived by his grandson, Darren; and many nieces, nephews, and numerous dear friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319.
