Joe Davis, 77, passed away May 20, 2018. He was born December 27, 1940 in Elmwood, West Virginia to the late Dorsel and Flaura Davis. Joe spent most of his life in the Akron area, growing up in Sawyerwood and spending as much time on Springfield Lake as possible. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1958 and shortly afterward he joined the Army, being stationed in Germany. After his service in the Army, Joe attended the University of Akron where he studied Chemistry. He spent the majority of his career working for Firestone and Omnova, retiring when he was 66. He had a ten-year break from the rubber industry where he worked as General Manager for Buckeye Sports Supply in Canton, Ohio. Other than his family, Joe’s passion was enjoying the outdoors. Fishing and golf came second only to duck hunting at Nimisila Reservoir.
Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by grandchildren, Christopher and Gabriel Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice; sons, Tom (Laura), Rich (Deborah) and Ted (Traci) Davis; grandchildren, Nicklaus, Lauren, Joseph and William Davis; brothers, Ervin (Charlotte) and Don (Cindy) Davis, as well as many other family and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to Children’s Hospital NICU Department, One Perkins Square, Akron, Ohio, 44308-1062.
