Johny Ray ("Big John") Burkett

John Burkett, 59, the man, the myth, the legend, took his last ride, surrounded in his home by those he loved, on April 1, 2017.  John was born July 4, 1957, in Akron to the late John Henry and Ruth Mae Burkett. John was well known in the Portage Lakes as he lived here his entire life. One of his favorite hobbies was to spend time riding his Harley on various adventures near and far and spending time with family and friends at the Turkeyfoot Sportsman Club, where he was a member. He had a smile, laugh, and personality that could light up any room; he never met a stranger.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Jack, and grandchildren, Jessie and “Xander” John. He is survived by his soul mate, Dana Roy; daughters, Crystal Burkett and Michelle (Mike) Stover; son, Jeff (Cindi) Burkett; grandchildren, Cory, Jacob, Alexa, Viviana, and Austin; brothers, William (Judy) and Craig (Connie) Burkett; as well as many other loving family and friends.

A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd.
