John A. Stamey

John Stamey, 79, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family and friends, on October 9, 2017.  John was born July 15, 1938 in Akron to the late Rush and Clina Stamey.  John was a loving husband, father and grandpa.  (Papa) John was a lifetime resident of Springfield Township where he and his wife, Patricia, raised their family.  John was a member of the Wayfarer Lodge #789.  He retired as a truck driver and always made friends along his routes.  He was an avid car enthusiast and loved to wash and shine his rides.  John never met an animal that wasn’t his friend.  Through it all, he never lost his sense of humor or his charm.  He will be truly missed.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Verne and sister, Barbara (Gilbert). He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia; daughters, Gerri (Steve) Kenda and Terri (Jeff) Pickens; grandchildren, Sara (John) Kurtz, Katie (Mike Mullins) Younkins and Johnathon Kenda; sister, Janis; brother, Bill (Paula); along with many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Bailey.

The family would like to give special thanks to hospice staff, Nancy and Byron.

Funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Darryl Moulder officiating.  Family and friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be at East Liberty Cemetery.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
